Problems Authenticating With Chrome/Firefox When Adding a OneDrive, Google Drive, or Dropbox Database on macOS

To allow Strongbox to access your OneDrive, Dropbox or Google Drive database, you will need to authenticate via Strongbox. To do this Strongbox needs to launch your browser. Strongbox uses whichever is your default browser on your Mac. Once your default browser is launched you should see the familiar login screen for your cloud drive. However sometimes this can hang or just not function. We are unsure of why this can occur, however here are some troubleshooting steps:

Troubleshooting

  1. We recommend disabling any ad-blocking or content blocking software during this authentication step
  2. Please disable any firewall or other process that could block the authentication
  3. Try signing out of your Cloud Drive, in case you have previously signed in before. You can find this in Strongbox under the File > Cloud Drive Sessions menu item.
  4. Please try a full restart of your Mac.
  5. If the above fails we have found that using Safari (if only temporarily to authenticate) fixes the issue. So set your default browser to Safari, perform the authentication, and then you can revert to your preferred browser. To set the default browser see here: Change the default web browser on Mac
