NB: We can no longer recommend that you use the Files method for storing your database. We cannot guarantee data integrity because we do not have full control over end to end sync using this method. We always recommend using Strongbox Sync for database storage. Alternatively, we have native OneDrive, Dropbox and Google Drive integrations and SFTP/WebDAV for those of you running your own servers.
If the cloud storage provider you want to use is not natively supported by Strongbox, it should still be possible to use them to sync your database. In order to work with Strongbox on iPhone and iPad, your cloud storage provider needs to offer an iOS app that integrates with the iOS Files app. For a list of the cloud storage providers that work best with the Files app on iPhone/iPad, see here.
In order to work with Strongbox on Mac, your cloud storage provider needs to provide a Mac app that creates a folder that is synced with their cloud service.
To set up the sync on your iPhone or iPad:
- Follow the instructions on Apple's support site to set up your cloud storage provider in the Files app
- Tap the + button in the Strongbox app
- Tap either New Database or Add Existing
- Select Files from the list of Storage locations
- Navigate to the location for your database file and select it
To set up the sync on your Mac:
- Install your cloud providers app so that a folder is created on your Mac
- Tap the Add Database button in the Strongbox app
- Select Add from Files from the list of Storage locations
- Navigate to the location for your database file and select it
